Microfilming and Microfiche Services - Microfilm &
Scanning Bureau (NE) Ltd
Despite a trend towards the scanning of
documents, microfilming remains an effective and low cost way to archive
paper documents.
In the long term, digital data will have to be migrated as the hardware
and software become obsolete, whereas an analogue medium such as microfilm
has a life expectancy of 500 years.
When retrieval is of lesser importance than preservation and archival
quality, it is a secure and stable means of storing images. Bearing
in mind a scanned image is generally produced at a resolution of between
200 and 400 dpi, a microfilm is usually over 6000 dpi making it preferable
for drawings.
16 & 35mm Roll Film
A4-A0 sized documents and plans can be put onto 16mm and 35mm roll
film and supplied in spool or cartridge format. Frame blips and sequential
numbering can be added to 16mm film for use with CAR systems.
Approximately, 2,000 A4/A3 documents will fit on one 16mm film or 500
A2-A0 drawings on a 35mm film.
Many disaster recovery plans will require additional copies and our
duplicating services include copying onto diazo and silver negative
or positive film.
Jackets/Microfiche/Aperture Cards
Film can be cut and inserted into indexed microfiche jackets for ease
of retrieval on small and relatively cheap equipment. These can be copied
onto a sheet of diazo giving what is called a ‘microfiche’.
Typically, plans are put onto 35mm film mounted into indexed aperture
cards.
Equipment Sales
We supply micrographic equipment for viewing and printing from various
microforms as well as consumables, such as toner cartridges and lamps
as well as storage, such as fire proof safes or fiche cabinets.
